Sometimes the most meaningful chapters in our breeding journey come from outside our own breed. Buck and Doe, two tiny Bull Terrier puppies, joined our family when they were just a day old—and their story is one of resilience, collaboration, and the deep bonds that form when breeders support one another.
Our "Rex" was a singleton born just 4 days earlier to first time mom, Panther.
Due to lack of siblings, Singletons can have poor social skills, poor bite inhibition, trouble coping with frustration and more.
Siblings for Rex were a Godsend.

The Bull Terrier dam delivered a large litter of ten via C‑section. The surgery was successful, but she struggled to recover from anesthesia, and several puppies were lost in those first fragile hours. Two of the smallest pups—later named Buck and Doe—were fading quickly. Both weighed under six ounces and were losing ground fast.
These puppies were the result of a carefully planned AI breeding between two exceptional champions with impeccable pedigrees. They were destined for greatness, but in that moment, they simply needed a chance to survive.

Their breeder reached out to us when the puppies were only a day old. They were four days younger than our Lagotto puppy, Rex, and we knew we could give them the round‑the‑clock care they needed. We immediately agreed to add them.
Panther, our Lagotto and a first‑time mother, welcomed them with a tenderness that still moves us. She licked them gently, warmed them, and accepted them as her own without hesitation. It was as if she understood they had been entrusted to her.

With Panther’s unwavering mothering, Buck and Doe began to thrive. At six weeks old, Buck was strong enough to return to his breeder. Doe stayed with us until eight weeks, when her forever family picked her up.
Doe—now named Shelby—remains part of our extended family as an honorary Truffle Dog. She uses her nose like a Lagotto, offers impeccable eye contact, and has a joyful eagerness to please. She may be a Bull Terrier by breed, but she carries the heart of a working dog.
"Shelby" has her own social media pages & we love following her journey - ever so happy to have been part of it.

Helping Buck and Doe was an honor.
Ethical, preservation‑minded breeders support one another, especially when the unexpected happens. These puppies reminded us that responsible breeding is not just about producing dogs—it’s about community, compassion, and doing what is right for the animals we love.

The journey of our blended family went viral on both Facebook and TikTok - there are some adorable videos of this trio - including updated pics and videos from their new families.
